I.\u00a0<\/span>GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

1. Implementation Context:<\/h4>\n

Thanh Tri B Hamlet is one of the disadvantaged hamlets of Da Loc Commune, Chau Thanh District, Tra Vinh Province. The whole hamlet has 379 households, of which the Khmer ethnic group accounts for the majority with 92.5% of the population; 61 households are poor households; the number of children over 5 years old is 107; 51 children are poor and near-poor households. The people in the hamlet live mainly on agriculture, in which rice cultivation is the main occupation. Therefore, the source of water for use is extremely important and necessary.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Currently, due to the impact of saltwater intrusion, water shortages occur more frequently, while water supply works are still lacking, which significantly affects the daily life and production of people in the hamlet. About 7-8 years ago, the government supported the construction of wells for people in the hamlet to use, each well serves about 5-6 households, then the water will be stored in jars and tanks. However, due to the high demand for water of the people, while the water source from wells is limited, water shortages occur more frequently, especially in the dry season. In addition, the water taken from wells is salty, highly acidic, and cannot be used for drinking, people have to buy water to drink. \"Because there is no water to use, even though the water is acidic, I still try to use it\" - Ms. Chiem, a resident in the hamlet shared.<\/p>\n

Unsafe water tanks are being used by people in Thanh Tri B hamlet.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Thanh Tri B hamlet, water shortage in the dry season and flooding in the rainy season are big challenges for the people. All activities and water use of the people in the hamlet are also significantly affected. Using unsanitary water sources not only affects the daily life of the people in the hamlet but also causes infectious diseases. In particular, trachoma is a common disease among children here. \"When using water from the well, I often have sore eyes\" - shared by Thach Thi Yen Linh, 13 years old, daughter of Ms. Chiem.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

When clean water becomes scarce, people have to spend money to buy water at a high cost. For poor households who cannot afford to buy water, people have no choice but to use dirty, polluted water.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is really an urgent issue for Da Loc people. If they are not supported with clean water, they have no other choice but to use dirty and polluted water.<\/p>\n

2. Project implementation time: From April, 2021 - April, 2024<\/h4>\n

3. Method of project implementation:<\/h3>\n

\u2013 Assign the people of Lung Ho 1 village to organize the implementation of the project in the form of Community management, overseeing the entire project execution process.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Local authorities at all levels, Hoc Mon Ceporer and Long Thanh Commune Red Cross Society provide support in methods and techniques.<\/p>\n

II. ACHIEVEMENTS:<\/h2>\n

With the amount of 150,000,000 VND raised through MoMo e-Wallet and the community's contribution, in the Water Ambassador campaign - Joining hands to bring clean water to Thanh Tri B Hamlet, the Institute for Sustainable Development Management (MSD) has coordinated with the Center for Research on Community Development Initiatives (RIC) to build a clean water supply system for the people of Thanh Tri B Hamlet, Da Loc Commune, Chau Thanh District, Tra Vinh Province.<\/p>\n

Since July, 2021; local people and authorities have started construction of the project with the support of MSD and RIC. At the end of September 2021, after 2 months of planning and implementation, the project was completed, accepted and put into use.<\/p>\n

After 3 months of construction and installation, the water supply project for Thanh Tri B hamlet residents was completed and achieved the following results:<\/p>\n

1) Regarding construction scale:<\/p>\n

\u2013 Construction and installation of the main water supply pipeline system from the transfer station of Tra Vinh water supply company to the residential area, 1,374m long, using HDPE plastic pipe D63mm;
\n\u2013 Installing water supply pipeline system of branches from main water pipeline to 100 households in residential area using D25mm PE plastic pipe.<\/p>\n

2) Regarding beneficiaries: After completion, the project will provide domestic water for:
\n\u2013 100 households in Thanh Tri B hamlet (with 340 people, including 175 women and 102 children, 25 poor households, 100% of beneficiary households are Khmer ethnic minority);
\n\u2013 187 students of Da Loc A Primary School.<\/p>\n

Thus, compared to the original plan, the project has supported more than 50 households to benefit from the construction of the domestic water supply project in Thanh Tri B hamlet.<\/p>\n

Clean water has come to the people and from now on their lives and health will be guaranteed. This is an extremely meaningful thing not only for the people in the hamlet, the local government but also for MSD Institute and RIC.<\/p>\n
