"JOINING HANDS TO OVERCOME TYPHOON YAGI - FOR A RESILIENT VIETNAM" PROJECT 2ND PHASE REPORT

Following the success of Phase 1 – Emergency Relief for Children and Families Affected by Floods, the project “Together with Children Through the Flood Season – For a Resilient Vietnam” officially entered Phase 2 – Recovery Support and Educational Access for Children (from October 2024). 

👉 Key activities under Phase 2 have been implemented as follows: 

  1. An Lac Kindergarten, Luc Yen District, Yen Bai Province (now under Lao Cai Province)

  • Infrastructure and facility recovery: Replaced all items damaged by the typhoon, including blanket cabinets, towel and cup racks, one industrial meat grinder, 100 artificial grass mats, and 138 stainless-steel trays. 
  • Nutritional support: Provided 10,000 nutritious lunches for 50 students. 
  • Capacity building in mental health care: Conducted training for 17 teachers on “Psychological Health Care for Children.” 
  • Painted one educational mural promoting environmental protection. 
  1. Dong Quan Primary School, Luc Yen District, Yen Bai Province (now under Lao Cai Province)

  • Essential facility construction: Built 02 new toilet blocks for two satellite campuses in Hamlet 1 and Hamlet 10. 
  • Psychosocial training: Provided training for 34 teachers on “Psychological Health Care for Children and Adolescents in the Context of Natural Disasters and Storms”. 
  • Nutritional support: Delivered semester 2 nutrition assistance to 08 disadvantaged students. 
  • Painted one educational mural promoting environmental protection. 
  1. Van To Secondary School, Tu Ky District, Hai Duong Province (now under Chi Minh Commune, Hai Phong City)

  • Classroom rehabilitation: Repaired and re-tiled the floors of 12 classrooms. 
  • Sanitation improvement: Renovated the school restroom facilities. 
  • Mental health support training: Organized 01 training session on “Psychological Health Care for Children and Adolescents in the Context of Natural Disasters and Storms”. 
  • Painted one educational mural promoting environmental protection. 
  1. Dong Quan Secondary School, Luc Yen District, Yen Bai Province (now under Lao Cai Province)

  • Essential supplies support: Provided 100 warm blankets and 100 pairs of slippers for students. 
  • Post-disaster recovery: Conducted land leveling and removal of landslide debris. 
  • Clean water access: Installed 05 water purifiers to ensure safe drinking water. 
  • Painted one educational mural promoting environmental protection.

Phase 2 of the “Joining Hands to Overcome Typhoon Yagi 2024 – For a Resilient Vietnam” project concluded with remarkable progress in post-disaster recovery and education restoration efforts. With a strong focus on “Recovery Support and Educational Access for Children” , the project has delivered tangible, lasting changes that enable students to return to safe, stable learning environments.
