Joining Hands to Overcome the Flood Disasters – For a Resilient Vietnam

Climate Change and Its Increasing Impact

Climate change is becoming increasingly evident across many localities in Vietnam. The year 2025 closed with severe consequences from floods, landslides, and prolonged inundation across the country. Many residential areas were submerged, transportation routes were cut off, and the daily lives and education of children in the Central, Central Highlands, and Northern regions were significantly disrupted.

Numerous children were forced to temporarily stop attending school due to flooded classrooms. Some lacked access to essential supplies, while certain families had to evacuate their homes to ensure safety. These disruptions are not only immediate crises but also leave long-term effects on children’s well-being and future development.

Disaster Response Requires Early Preparedness

Natural disasters are becoming more unpredictable and severe. Within a short period, many families can fall into emergency situations as livelihoods are interrupted, homes are damaged, and daily life is turned upside down.

In this context, effective disaster response depends not only on post-disaster relief but also on proactive preparedness. Having resources ready in advance is a crucial factor in ensuring timely and needs-based support when emergencies occur.

Children – The Most Vulnerable Group

Children are among those most directly and long-term affected by natural disasters. Interruptions in education, shortages of basic necessities, and emotional distress can leave lasting consequences during a stage of life when protection and stability are most critical.

Therefore, early preparedness and resource mobilization play an essential role in mitigating risks and helping children and their families recover more quickly after disasters.
