Through the “A New Chapter of Life” project, MSD United Way Vietnam continues to support children without legal identity documents in obtaining birth certificates, ensuring their right to legal recognition and access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and protection. For many vulnerable children, a birth certificate is not just an administrative requirement but a critical gateway to becoming part of the education system and society.
The story of L.T.K, born in 2017 in Ben Cat, Binh Duong, reflects the challenges faced by many children in similar circumstances. Raised by grandparents in a low-income household after the mother left with all personal documents and the father established a separate family, the child was unable to obtain a birth certificate for years. Despite their strong desire to see their grandchild attend school, the grandparents faced significant barriers due to missing documentation, limited financial resources, and the complexity of legal procedures.
A turning point came when the child enrolled in a charity class, where teachers and caregivers provided not only education but also support and connection to external resources. Through this network, the case was referred to MSD United Way Vietnam’s birth registration support team. Since September 2025, the organization has worked closely with the family, carefully reviewing documents and guiding them through each step of the process.
The application was restructured and submitted through the national public service portal. When additional requirements arose or applications were initially rejected, the team continued to coordinate with local authorities, assisting the family in providing supplementary documents and identifying witnesses to complete the legal process. Through persistent efforts and collaboration, the path toward legal recognition was gradually established.
Obtaining a birth certificate has enabled L.T.K to formally continue education and access essential social services. More importantly, it marks the beginning of a more secure and hopeful future.
For MSD United Way Vietnam, each birth certificate issued represents more than the completion of a legal procedure. It signifies the start of a new chapter, where children are recognized, protected, and empowered to pursue their full potential. Through this initiative, MSD United Way Vietnam reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in accessing their fundamental rights and opportunities for development.
A New Life Page Project aims to promote the right to birth registration and other fundamental rights, including access to nutrition and education, for disadvantaged and special circumstances children and youth in Ho Chi Minh City.
